Secondary Reform

July 21, 2025

·        The future of secondary education in the Northern Territory is changing, with young Territorians at the centre of the conversation.

·        The NT Government is taking action to provide every student, no matter where they live, with access to an excellent and equitable education, and a pathway to a job.

·        The Secondary Reform Program is paving the way for all students to complete their Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training (NTCET), so they have the skills to succeed at work or in further study after school.

·        The Northern Territory Government is making a significant investment in the future of education by transitioning to a new, comprehensive secondary education system across Darwin, Palmerston, and Alice Springs.

·        Following extensive engagement with school employees, students and parents on the proposed models for secondary schools, the Northern Territory Government is proud to announce the new secondary school design for Darwin, Palmerston and Alice Springs.

·        More than 1,100 people responded to an online survey, with strong support for the proposed changes and valuable feedback on implementation considerations including infrastructure, resourcing, wellbeing, diverse high-quality pathways, enrolment areas, and clear communication.

·        This change will deliver high-quality learning pathways, ensure a seamless journey from Year 7 to 12, and better prepare students for life beyond school.

Dear Parents/Guardians, We appreciate your patience and understanding during what has been a challenging start to the year with the CDU campus canteen unavailable. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen personal circumstances, the new canteen operator has experienced delays, and the service has not commenced as originally anticipated. While we work through this situation together and await the canteen reopening, we ask for your support with the following short-term arrangements. Where possible, students are asked to bring their own lunch to school. It is not desirable for students to leave the campus to visit nearby shops, as return times are not always timely and this disrupts learning. Similarly, food delivery services such as Uber Eats or DoorDash rely on third-party providers and do not align with our timetable. Students are also not permitted to collect deliveries during class time. In the interim, the following options are available to support students: Students who are members of Clontarf or STARS may access food through their respective academies. The Toastie Room, located near the Engagement Office, is supported by Foodbank and is available for students who may be unable to bring lunch. Lovey’s Food Van will be onsite daily at 12:30 pm to support both the CDU and CSC campuses. We encourage students to utilise this service to help ensure it remains viable. At this stage, CDU Canteen has advised that operations are expected to commence on Monday, 23 February . Thank you for your understanding as we navigate this situation. We appreciate your cooperation in supporting students to remain on site and make use of the available options during this interim period. Kind regards, Jodie Solczaniuk Senior Operations Manager
